Utilities

Services and Costs:

 Connect Fees:

There is a $20.00 initial connect fee. We have a $20.00 readout fee also. If gas service is being
connected, the City will pressure test the system and ignite all required pilot lights, therefore the customer must be on hand in order to have any gas service connected. The City employee is not allowed to enter any address without the occupant present. The Gas Department will light the pilots during the initial connect only. Should the pilots be turned off for repairs or during the summer months, the resident will need to contact their plumber to have the pilots re-lit should that be necessary.

Water:

The customer is charged for a minimum of $12.00 for four units (one unit unit is is 1,000 gallons) of water each month plus $2.80 per unit thereafter. The City is responsible for any necessary repairs up to and including the meter. Any repair required from the outlet of the meter to the building is the customer's responsibility. Should there be a leak on the customer side of the meter, the water usage is also the customer's responsibility and cost.

Gas:

The customer is charged a monthly service charge for service of $6.50. They also pay the contract price of $10.74 per unit used (one unit is 1,000 cubic feet or 1,000,000 BTUs) of gas each month. Like water, the City is responsible for any required repairs up to and including the meter. Any repair required from the outlet of the meter to the building is the customer's responsibility. Should there be a leak on the customer side of the meter, the usage is also the customer's responsibility and cost.

Should you ever suspect a leak either inside or outside, call the City (24 hours a day) at 806-435-4014 immediately and a City employee will test for and attempt to locate any such leaks at no cost to the customer.

Wastewater or Sewage:

Minimum of $11.00 for residential and $13.50 for commercial for up to 4,000 gallons of water usage, then 50 cents per 1,000 gallons of water with a maximum of $15.00 for residential. Should your sewer become clogged and backup, the first step is to call City Hall at 435-4014. A City employee will be sent to check the City's main. Should the main be clear, the customer would then be advised and it would be their responsibility to call a plumber to check the line from the building to the City's main. Should the customer call a plumber first, then determine it is the City's main that is clogged, the City will not be responsible for the customer's bill from the plumber. All drains located in basements are required to have either an approved sump pump or backflow valve. The City is not responsible for any backup that may flow into the customer's basements, regardless of the cause.

Solid waste or Trash:

Residential customers are charged $22.00 per month, Commercial customers are charged $26.00.. This provides two tips per week (tip is the emptying of the dumpster). Any additional tips required have an added cost of $4.60. These items must be placed in the alley next to the dumpster in order to be picked up. Some of our citizens spend a lot of time and effort keeping their alleys clean, neat and mowed. We would like to ask that you help in respecting their efforts when placing any items out to be picked up.

Note: Any comments, complaints or questions may be directed to the Public Works or Utility Billing Dept. in City Hall at 435-4014.
